Scheduled maintenance and service to ensure your aspirating systems continue to function reliably and remain compliant.

What is an aspirating smoke detection system?

An aspirating smoke detection system (sometimes called an aspirated fire detection system) continuously samples air through a network of discreet pipework. Air is drawn into a central detection unit where high-sensitivity sensors detect even trace amounts of smoke.

Protect early. Protect confidently.

Mitie Fire & Security delivers aspirating systems and ongoing service you can trust — giving early warning when every moment matters.

Where aspirating smoke detectors are most effective

Aspirating systems are often specified in environments where early detection is essential or traditional smoke detectors may be challenged:

These aspirating systems provide proactive detection with minimal disruption to operations.

Aspirating fire alarm and compliance

A well-designed aspirating fire alarm component forms an important part of an overall fire protection strategy. Installing an aspirating smoke detection system enhances early warning capability and supports safe evacuation.

Regular maintenance and testing are essential to ensure system performance, compliance with fire safety standards (such as BS 5839) and alignment with regulatory requirements.

Proven expertise. Reliable performance.

Mitie Fire & Security installs and maintains aspirating systems across healthcare, education, industrial and commercial facilities.

FAQ: Aspirating Systems

What are aspirating systems?

Aspirating systems are high-sensitivity smoke detection systems that draw air through a network of pipes into a central detector. This allows early detection of smoke particles before they are visible or trigger conventional alarms.

An aspirating smoke detector is the core component of an aspirating smoke detection system. It continuously samples air for trace smoke particles, providing early warning where standard detectors may be less effective.

Unlike traditional point smoke detectors, aspirating systems actively sample air and detect smoke at very low concentrations. This makes them ideal for high-value or high-risk environments such as data centres and clean rooms.

These systems are particularly suited to data centres, server rooms, high bay warehouses, clean manufacturing spaces, historic interiors and areas where unobtrusive or early detection is required.

Yes. Routine inspection and servicing help ensure the aspirating smoke detection system continues to operate reliably, remains aligned with design specifications and meets compliance requirements.

Aspirating systems are specified where high-sensitivity detection is necessary due to the nature of the environment or operational risk. Regulatory standards require appropriate detection based on fire risk assessments.
